Mobile Home (New York)

2011, Slate, wood, metal, paper, and wire, 18 x 25 cm

Each work in the series "Mobile Homes" is built with fragments of the city in which it was constructed: shards of slate from the sidewalks of Brooklyn, ceramic made within a factory of Moscow, drywall and metal gathered at the industrial port of Ravenna. Bound or hung together to form the floorplan of a simple home, each house serves as a secular mobile icon, promising a sense of security and stability more traditionally conferred by the cross they resemble.
